Argyll & Bute

The Argyll and Bute Divisional Area has the longest coast line of all the Areas where CHOICES CARE provide services in Scotland. Argyll and Bute has 25 inhabited islands and services are delivered over 150 miles apart.  Transport can be one of the biggest barriers to delivering services. Managing these services requires travel by ferry and the use of single track roads.

Services are provided from the main towns in the Local Authority areas and are managed by two managers covering East and West. The East covers Helensburgh, Bute and Duoon. The West covers Oban, Mid Argyll and Kintyre.

Services are provided to people with Learning Disabilities and to people who have mental ill health. Support ranges from 24 hours per day 7 days per week services to as little as a couple of hrs to meet the assessed needs of the person requiring support. These services are recognised as supported living /care at home services helping people to remain in the community and live independent lives. A holistic approach is taken to meet the social, emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the individuals who require care and support.

Staff need to be innovative in the way they care for and support people due to the remoteness of some of these services and the lack of resources available to them in the areas where they work. The workforce can be required to work across the whole area to meet the demands of the service.
